What happens to the action messages when they are approved with DO Workbench?
Action message approval in DO Workbench is done in 2 steps:
1) DO Workbench treats approved action messages as if they are being reviewed and they get deleted from QAD.
2) Then a list of records that triggered the approved action messages is pre-populated into corresponding DO Create or DO update tabs.
The user will need to review data on those tabs and make any required changes such as grouping lines into a single DO, or changing quantities or due dates. The reviewed and adjusted data are then sent to QAD, creating new or updating existing distribution orders.
This two-step solution gives you more control and flexibility over action message approval. You can, for example, go through step 1 and approve action messages without updating or creating DO records in QAD for all or some of them. Then, you can run DRP again to re-access the distributed items status in QAD. It will create new or updated action messages, where applicable.
Can you automatically create a distribution order for materials when their inventory levels fall below certain threshold?
Yes and there are multiple ways to do it.
You can choose the automated way and let QAD monitor inventory levels, generate planned inter-site requests and automatically approve them. This will require some item setup in QAD and you will have less control over what gets ordered and when it gets ordered.
Alternatively, you can have DO Workbench configured to download inventory that goes below pre-defined threshold in order to make decisions about what to order.
